I really wanted a real cast iron, king sized bed but obviously back in the day they didn’t make that size so it was going to be $3,000-$3,5000 to custom make one out of old parts or make my Queen guest bed into a king which would be about $2,000!……
So I decided to make my own!! My idea was to find two matching single cast iron beds and join them together for my own unique bed.
I’m not going to lie it was hard to find two that were matching due to traditional iron beds having different heights for top and bottom bed heads. Majority of the beds are over 150 years old and have seen better days, so if I was going to make this work it would be pure luck to be able to lock in a different set to a different frame.
Here is the set of bed heads that I bought of @gumtreeau $100… this was a risk, I bought them not knowing if they would fit into another frame and not knowing if the height would look good 😂…
2 single bed sets painted blue 🙌 on @ebayau , the bed ends where different heights and a little bit to feminine. I talked them down to $500 for both, I took the risk and bought them not knowing if the other bed heads would fit the frame 😂….
Well it worked 🙌… the bed heads locked in and I did a little happy dance, I did need to cut the wheels off the back bed heads so the bed would be level in height.
So it was time to paint over that blue and I went with a nice white from Rust-oleum $12.55 a can and I used 6 cans , I have a trade card for work so I get a discount = $61.50 🙌
To brace them together we pre drilled holes into both rails and then attached timber along one side, so the screws had something to fix into and pull the bed together! Hubby helped with this one while I tried to keep Bonnie away from all the metal everywhere 🤦♀️……
So this is my new original cast- iron -king -sized bed for total price $661.50 🙌😊…… I have to still finish decorating our Master bedroom but I’m getting there… I have moved the fake fire place from our study into our bedroom, removed the chairs, painted the mirror, decorated the inside of the fake fire place and added a rug so far.
